On September 17 local time, digital identity and crypto-asset project World announced that it had begun rolling out its World Money financial app in more than 150 countries. World, which changed its name from Worldcoin, has brought together stablecoin storage and transfers, trading, and access to asset-management services in the app. The app is provided by Tools for Humanity, co-founded by Sam Altman, and is based on a self-custodial wallet in which users manage their own assets. According to the company, the app supports stablecoin balances linked to eight currencies, including the U.S. dollar. Users can send supported crypto assets abroad using the recipient's World username. In some regions, users can also receive salary or other funds through individual virtual accounts supported by Bridge. In the United States, a top-up feature connected to payments company Stripe lets users pay with Apple Pay and add stablecoins to the app. The company said this process typically takes only a few minutes. The trading menu allows users to buy and sell supported assets through connected exchanges. In the asset-management menu, users can deposit supported assets, including the Worldcoin token WLD and stablecoins, into programs powered by Morpho to earn rewards. Users who have completed World ID verification through an Orb device receive temporarily boosted rewards in some programs. However, available features, assets, and eligibility vary by country, and services provided by external companies are subject to those companies' terms and conditions.

For stablecoins to function in everyday finance, the process of moving money into a wallet and reusing received funds needs to be convenient. World Money can be read as an effort to reduce that friction by connecting familiar payment methods and multiple financial services in one app. Adding enhanced rewards for users who prove they are human is a choice to use financial-service benefits as an incentive to participate in World ID verification.
