eToro Acquires US Broker TradeZero for Up to $231 Million

eToro, a global online investment platform that offers trading in stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and crypto assets along with "copy trading," which lets users replicate the strategies of other investors, has agreed to acquire the US online brokerage TradeZero. Founded in 2015, TradeZero serves active traders with US stock and stock options trading, professional trading programs, and tools such as a "short locator" that finds shares available to borrow for short selling. The purchase price is up to $231 million, combining cash and up to 2.5 million newly issued eToro shares, with the deal targeted to close in the first half of 2027 subject to regulatory approval.

eToro said the acquisition gives it the broker-dealer infrastructure needed to intermediate securities trading in the United States, along with a customer base, allowing it to expand its US business. TradeZero's trailing twelve-month revenue was about $80 million as of the end of June 2026. In second-quarter results released the same day, "funded accounts," meaning accounts that have received actual deposits and hold a balance, totaled 4.28 million, up 18% from a year earlier, and assets under administration (AUA), the combined value of stocks, ETFs, crypto assets and cash held by customers through eToro and its partners, rose 10% to $19.2 billion. Meanwhile, crypto asset transactions in July numbered 1.4 million, down 73% from the same month a year earlier.

The decline in July crypto trading alone is not enough to conclude that eToro's overall user base has shrunk. Funded accounts and assets under administration both grew, and July capital markets transactions, which combine stocks, commodities and currencies, were roughly in line with the same month last year. Acquiring TradeZero at this juncture reads as a move by eToro to secure US stock and options brokerage capability and thereby broaden its asset classes and revenue base, but the actual effect will have to be confirmed after regulatory approval and the closing of the deal.
